Do It Yourself Carpet Cleaning


To prevent a stain setting in to the carpet/rug area, spills should be cleaned immediately. You can do it yourself carpet cleaning by following these below quick carpet spot cleaning instructions:

*Do not rub a spill as rubbing will force the spill go deeper into the carpet fibers. Use a white clean paper towel or absorbent cloth to blot spills.

*Remove as much moisture from the spill as possible by blotting with a clean, white, absorbent cloth or paper towel.

*Use a blunt knife or a spoon to remove any solids. Always do the cleaning from the edge of the stain inward, and whenever possible scrape in the direction of the pile.

*Use clean lukewarm water added with a small amount of mild dishwashing liquid or carpet shampoo to remove any residual stain.

*If residual stain can not be removed with water, effective way to remove spills by using solvent. Applying a few drops of solvent on a small area of the rug should always be done to pretest the solvent effectiveness, then using a white clean paper towel or absorbent cloth to blot the spills.

*Use a spoon handle to apply the solvent directly on the stain and work from the edges of the spot to the center. Use a white clean paper towel or absorbent cloth to blot spills thoroughly until as much moisture as possible is absorbed. Remember do not over-wetting the stain, the process is only need to be repeated until the spot no longer transfers to the cleaning cloth.

*To remove any residual cleaner use clean water, and use white paper towels to absorb any remaining moisture. To restore the carpet fiber texture, use vacuum cleaner when dry to vacuum the pile.
